3 Cars Collide On Randall Road After Driver Fails To Slow Down: Police

BATAVIA, IL — Three cars collided at the intersection of Randall Road and Main Street Tuesday afternoon after one driver didn’t slow down in time to avoid a crash, according to Batavia police.

A 47-year-old male driver, considered by police to be at fault and cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Deputy Chief Michael Johnson told Patch.

Officers responded to the scene at 2:41 p.m. Tuesday. An investigation determined two cars were waiting at a red light in the inside lane of northbound Randall Road when a third car approached Main Street without slowing down, hitting the second car. The force of the impact pushed it into the car in front, officials said.

The 47-year-old driver told police he momentarily looked at his child inside the car and when he looked back at the road, he was unable to slow down in time to avoid crashing, according to Johnson.

Besides the man, another female driver — who drove the car that was hit second — was treated on the scene and refused hospital transport, according to police.
