ELBA — No initial injuries were reported, though one person was taken to the hospital for evaluation, New York State Police said at the scene of a bus accident Thursday afternoon on Oak Orchard Road.
State Police Sgt. Benjamin Fasano said a driver and monitor from Ridge Road Express, the bus company, were on the Ridge Road bus, along with a student at the New York State School for the Blind in Batavia.
“Somebody left in an ambulance, but it was just for an evaluation … not for any specific injury. I’m not sure who that was for,” Sgt. Benjamin Fasano said at the scene.
Fasano said the injured person was taken by Mercy EMS ambulance to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.
The bus was driving north on Route 98, between Batavia-Elba Townline Road and Edgerton Road when the one-vehicle accident happened.
“The bus went off the east shoulder of the road, struck a ditch, then a utility pole,” Fasano said. Part of the pole was on the ground near the bus.
Fasano said there did not appear to be a medical emergency on the driver’s part and the road was pretty dry. State Police personnel were still investigating the cause Thursday afternoon.
No tickets had been issued as of Thursday afternoon. Also on scene were the Elba Fire Department and fire police, Mercy CMS and National Grid were on scene. National Grid dealt with downed wires.
