BATAVIA — Two Oak Street lodging places have been closed due to a code violation with each of the hotels, with the property owners unreachable, a city official said Tuesday.
The Days Inn by Wyndham, 200 Oak St., and Super 8 by Wyndham, 200A Oak St., have been closed for over a month, Public Works Director Brett Frank said.
“The property owners have left the country. We’ve been unable to contact them,” Frank said. “At the moment, there’s not a whole lot you’re able to do unless they don’t pay their taxes and they’re able to foreclose. That’s only after a certain number of years has gone by.”
The hotels have signs on them saying “This property is closed” along with notices from the city Department of Public Works saying they were condemned Sept. 12 as unsafe.
Both notices from city Code Enforcement Officer Doug Randall say the hotels were condemned due to an inoperable fire alarm system, no electrical service, gas service or water service.
