BATAVIA — Five Batavia High School girl’s tennis players earned Monroe County Division III All-Star accolades for the 2022 fall sports season.
The Blue Devils placed third in their division and defeated Sodus in the opening round of the Class B Tournament before falling to Harley Allendale Columbia in the second round.
Meet Batavia’s Selections
Second Team: Casey Tatarka. Senior, Four year starter on varsity, Co- MVP on Blue Devils team, posted a very respectable 5-7 record as part of First Doubles team. Plans on attending college with hopes of playing tennis.
Second Team: Maya Schrader. Senior, Four year starter on varsity, Co-MVP for the Lady Devils, played to a 5-7 record as part of First Doubles team; Also, part of a duo that captured the consolation Doubles Championship at the Class B Individual Sectionals. Future plans are to attend college.
Second Team: Allison Debo. Sophomore, Two year varsity performer, split her season playing first and second singles. Lefty player with a powerful and dangerous first serve, really improved her game to become one of the up and coming players in Division 3.
Honorable Mention: Sophia Minuto. Junior, First year player, named team Rookie of the Year playing from her third singles position. Was part of the doubles team that won the Consolation Doubles title at individual Sectionals for Class B.
Honorable Mention: Kelsey Kirkwood. Sophomore, Three year varsity player, played first and second singles for the Blue Devils. Established herself as a tough opponent with consistent ground strokes and improving serve.
